NABJ Scholarships


ALLISON E. FISHER SCHOLARSHIP*

Number of Awards Available: 1
Amount of the Award: $2,500

Eligibility Criteria
Competition for the scholarship is open to any black student who is currently attending an accredited four-year university. Students must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student that:
• Majors in broadcast journalism
• Maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA
• Demonstrates community service


Additional Criteria
• Previous NABJ scholarship winners are not eligible
• The recipient must be a member of NABJ before the grant is awarded
• The grant is awarded directly to the recipient’s college or university
• The recipient will participate in the NABJ Mentor Program

Scholarships will be awarded upon proof of enrollment. The winner will be formally recognized on the NABJ Web site and in the convention program book.

* The recipient of this program will be asked to attend the “Evening with an Angel on a Jazz Note,” held in October, which is the annual fundraiser for this scholarship.

GERALD BOYD/ROBIN STONE SCHOLARSHIP

Number of Awards Available: 1
Amount of the Award: $2,500

Eligibility Criteria
Competition for the scholarship is open to any black student who is currently attending an accredited four-year university. Students must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student who:
• Majors in print journalism
• Maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA


Additional Criteria
• Previous NABJ scholarship winners are not eligible
• All scholarship winners must be members of NABJ before the grants are awarded
• All grants are awarded directly to the recipients college or university
• The recipients will participate in the NABJ Mentor Program

NABJ SCHOLARSHIP

Number of Awards Available: 2
Amount of the Award: $2,500

Eligibility Criteria
Competition for the scholarship is open to any black student who is currently attending an accredited four-year university. Students must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student who:
• Majors in journalism (print, radio, online, or television)
• Maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA


Additional Criteria
• Previous NABJ scholarship winners are not eligible
• All scholarship winners must be members of NABJ before the grants are awarded
• All grants are awarded directly to the recipients college or university
• The recipients will participate in the NABJ Mentor Program

Scholarships will be awarded upon proof of enrollment. The winner will be formally recognized on the NABJ Web site and in the convention program book.

NEWHOUSE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Number of Awards Available: 2
Amount of the Award: $10,000 (over two academic years)

Eligibility Criteria
Competition for the scholarship is open to any black junior or senior who is currently attending an accredited four-year university. The student is eligible for renewal for one year providing the student:
• Majors in print journalism
• Maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA
• Works on the campus newspaper


Additional Criteria
• Previous NABJ scholarship winners are not eligible
• All scholarship winners must be members of NABJ before the grants are awarded
• All grants are awarded directly to the recipients college or university
• The recipients will participate in the NABJ Mentor Program
• All winners work for 10 weeks as a paid intern for three summers at a Newhouse internship (minimum salary will be $325 a week)

Scholarships will be awarded upon proof of enrollment. The winner will be formally recognized on the NABJ Web site and in the convention program book.


VISUAL TASK FORCE SCHOLARSHIP

Number of Awards Available: 2
Amount of the Award: $1,250

Eligibility Criteria
Competition for the scholarship is open to any black student who is currently attending an accredited four-year university or graduate program. Students must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student that:
• Declared a concentration in visual journalism
• Maintains a minimum 2.75 GPA
• Has experience working on their campus newspaper or TV studio
• Has had an internship


Additional Criteria

• Previous NABJ scholarship winners are not eligible
• All scholarship winners must be members of NABJ before the grants are awarded
• All grants are awarded directly to the recipients college or university
• The recipients will participate in the NABJ Mentor Program

Scholarships will be awarded upon proof of enrollment. The winner will be formally recognized on the NABJ Web site and in the convention program book.
