NABJ Media Institute

The NABJ Media Institute seeks to provide professional development, technical training, historical documentation and entrepreneurial guidance for black journalists and students, relating to the media industry.

The Media Institute also seeks to teach, compile, disseminate and chronicle information about African Americans  in the field of journalism, and acts as a clearinghouse for information to  entities interested in the media and the connection with black journalists.

The Institute is headquartered at the NABJ national office on the campus of the University of Maryland, but its programs are often held at venues across  the country, "super workshops" held at the annual convention.

NABJ staff manages the Institute but NABJ members largely develop the curriculum and foundations and corporate supporters generally fund the programs. Except for super workshops, events are typically held on weekends and participants pay a nominal registration fee, with travel, lodging and catering funded through  sponsorships.
