Criteria for Selecting NABJ Convention Cities

Can the city handle us?
  Hotel sizes
Convention centers
Logistics/transportation
Entertainment opportunities
 
Will we have local corporate support?
  Number and size of local companies
Willingness to contribute to NABJ or other black organizations
History with black employment and relations
 
Is it someplace our members want to go?
  Geography
Appeal of the city/region
Ease of travel to get to city
Safety
Black heritage

Is this a place that wants to have us?
  Hungry to have us in town
Willingness to make concessions/freebies
Welcoming to black folks
Local black community support
Municipal support
Local chapter/member interest and support
 
Can we afford it?

  Cost of hotel
Cost of travel
On-site costs
Other hidden costs

Will it be a success?
  Opportunity for spontaneity
Likelihood that we attract members and make money
Likelihood that we can control costs and make money
Likelihood that this city will produce the best NABJ convention ever!
