Lee
and Low Books, a publisher of multicultural books for children,
announces the first annual New Voices Award. The award will be
given to a picture book story by a writer of color. The winner
will receive a cash grant of $1,000 and a publication contract,
including an advance against royalities. Deadline for submissions
is September 30.
Robert T. Morse Award
Robert T. Robinson Award
Since 1964, the American Psychiatric Association has recognized
outstanding achievements and excellence in media coverage of mental
illnesses and psychiatric treatment through presentation of awards
to journalists, editors, newspapers, radio and television producers
and programs. In 2001, The Robert T. Morse Award was won by Diana
K. Sugg of The Baltimore Sun for "A Hospital Crisis: Children
in Need of Psychiatric Care." The Robert L. Robinson Award
was won by Jeff Stephens, producer for NBC's Dateline report on
schizophrenia, "Awakening." Both awards consist of a
$1,000 honorarium and a plaque. The awards will be presented at
the APA's 155th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia in May 2002.
In
the event of a tie, each winner will receive $500 and a plaque.
